Fallen

As I walk through the eucalyptus trees to refresh, to recharge, I comb the forest floor, just as others do hunting for treasures on the beach. I can’t help but collect my favourites. A beautiful colour, an unusual shape. I’m especially attracted to a bit of artful nibbling from a hungry insect. I always come home with a pocket full of leaves.

My home is adorned with garlands of eucalyptus leaves, but leaves are fragile and become brittle with age. Needing a way to preserve them, making them in copper and silver made sense.
Each piece is modelled from a real found leaf. A little bit is left to chance as I add a patina by repeated heating and quenching, a wonderfully enjoyable experimental process. Now my beloved eucalyptus leaves can be enjoyed for generations.

A selection from the Fallen collection can be found at Hoop Gallery in Torquay. If you have a special leaf you would like immortalised, contact me to discuss a commission.
